How to Change the Batteries in your Lopi/FPX Gas Appliance

Prior to changing the batteries in your appliance, make sure it is cool and the fire isn’t running so that you can access the batteries safely. The batteries are there for a very specific reason, they allow the fireplace to work when there is a power outage, so you’ll actually have normal operation even without power. Obviously the fan and lights won’t work but the fireplace itself and operation will work just fine. There are no safety concerns as they test them with no power at the factory just to make sure you can run them how you want to and as long as you want to even if the fan isn’t running everything will be safe.

Now about changing the batteries. In normal circumstances, you would change your batteries once a year as annual maintenance and upkeep. If you are in an area that is prone to power outages, you may need to change them more often. In either case, we’re going to show you how to access where the batteries are on your appliance, how to change them and how to get that fireplace up and running again with no trouble.

How to locate your battery holder on your fireplace: you may have a Greensmart basic fireplace or Deluxe model that has a remote control. In general, the battery holder is going to be found underneath the fireplace. You may need to take a face off or fold a grill/door down. You’ll also want to lift the screen frame off to give yourself more room to work with if your appliance has one.

When inserting the batteries, the spring end is where the negative end of the battery goes. Once you have the new batteries installed in your fireplace, it is best to make sure that everything is working properly. Flip the on/off switch to on to ensure everything turns on and is working as normal, and if it is working satisfactory for you, then return the fireplace to how it you had it prior to changing the batteries. Close your consumer covers, put any screens and faces on that you took off and you are good to go and ready for another heating season!
